Raúl Fernández
Raúl Fernández was just fourteen when he made his debut in the Spanish Moto3 Championship.
The Madrid-born rider was also selected for the Red Bull Rookies Cup. He competed in the series for two years, winning podium after podium. In 2016 he finished third in the championship and was also on the final podium of the CEV.
Born on 23 October 2000, he also took part in his first Grand Prix, making several substitute appearances. After winning the Spanish title in 2018, he became a full-time Grand Prix rider with the Nieto team the following season.
On six occasions Raúl Fernandez managed to finish in the top ten. But he still made too many mistakes and finished his first World Championship in 21st place. In 2020 the Spaniard joined the Ajo team. He took his first podium at Aragon and his first European Grand Prix win. Fourth at the end of the season, he then moved up to Moto2 where he literally exploded onto the scene.
A winner on eight occasions, he missed out on the title by just four points after a long battle with team-mate Remy Gardner, whom he would reunite with in MotoGP with the Tech3 KTM team the following season.
Unfortunately, his MotoGP debut proved to be much more complicated than expected. Unable to get to grips with the RC16, the Spaniard decided to join Razlan Razali's new RNF Aprilia team.
Despite a bike that lacked reliability last season, the SHARK rider did not disappoint. Proof of this was a fine fifth place in the final Grand Prix of the season in Valencia. Eleven points and five top-ten finishes later, the Spaniard intends to use the experience gained this season to shine this year in a restructured team that has switched to the American TRACKHOUSE banner.
